DJ Scotch Egg
Former next door neighbour of Wrong music legend Shitmat, DJ Scotch Egg plays melodic gabba on a Nintendo Gameboy and has played all over the world at electro, noise and rock events with the likes of Noxagt and Lightning Bolt.
He is usually classed as breakcore but there are no 'breaks' in the music he creates - it's more about compressed 8-bit tunes and punishing beats which build at an astounding rate into something undeniably powerful and original. For example, it can transform a room of beer drinking rockheads into jump up gabba grandad faces in 30 seconds. His two short album-length blasts for Adaadat and his reputation as a fearsome live performer have seen Shige's profile rise massively in the last year (soon to be supporting Devo!!)
His upcoming album for Load (which we were lucky enough to get a preview) will silence any detractors who might have had him pinned down in the novelty section. It is a mix of free playing, mathmatical metal and Gameboy programming that is simply unlike anything else on the planet - this is the music I imagined I would listen to in the future as I cruise around in my jetpack/hover skateboard/flying car.
